Burning Barge Ceremory in Rokan Hilir (Bakar Tongkang)


Burning Barge Ceremony  is a cult ceremony of the sea god or the god of “Kie Ong Ya” that controls the seas. Every 16th on fifth month of Lunar, it is celebrated the birthday of the god Kie Ong Ya, so the ceremony is called with “Go Ge Cap Lak”. The people who come to the City of  Bagan Siapi Api at the event, not only from the surrounding villages in Bagansiapiapi, but also come from the big cities in Indonesia such as Medan, Pekanbaru, Jakarta, Surabaya, and so on, and even from foreign countries like Malaysia, Singapore, Hongkong, and Taiwan.
On the 16th, month 5 of Lunar, There is a traditional ceremony in Bagan Siapi Api done by Chinese people called Go Ge Lak or commonly known by the Malay people with Burning Barge Ceremony.

If it is looked from its potential, Burning  Barge Ceremony has a huge potential for tourism and can be a flagship attraction if it is packeged and developed by the governent of Rokan Hilir regency.
